LA GRANDE GIRLS, BOYS SWEEP RIVERSIDE

BOARDMAN It may have been sloppy, but La Grandes girls basketball team picked up its ninth straight win Friday.

The Tigers beat hosting Riverside 51-31 in Greater Oregon League play, setting up a battle with Burns, the divisions other 4-0 league team, today in La Grande.

Both teams turned it over quite a bit, said La Grande coach Isaac Williams about Fridays contest.

La Grande (11-3 overall, 4-0 league) took a 24-10 halftime lead, but put the game out of reach with a 19-9 second quarter.

We got our fastbreak going in the third quarter and that put us over the top, Williams said.

Shalece Hibbert led the Tigers with 11 points, including two 3-pointers. Christie Weaver had 10.

LG boys throttle Pirates

BOARDMAN La Grande took a quick first-half lead and never looked back as it beat Riverside 67-45 Friday.

The Tigers improved to 3-1 in Greater Oregon League action and 6-9 overall.

La Grande jumped to a 37-16 halftime lead and went ahead 53-30 at the end of the third.

We had a great start. Our press was working well for us and it sped Riverside up faster than they wanted to go, La Grande coach Aaron Mills said. We were able to get some easy points off turnovers.

The offense featured three players in double figures, led by Steve McMahan with 12 points, including two 3-pointers. Seth Pennington and Tyler Lester added 11 apiece, with Lester hitting two 3-pointers.

La Grande hosts Burns today.
