EASTERN LOSES; WIN STREAK ENDS

PORTLAND Eastern Oregons womens basketball winning streak ended at 14 games Saturday night.

The Concordia Cavaliers outshot, outrebounded and outplayed the No. 18 Mountaineers in their 87-66 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory.

Eastern (14-2 overall, 7-1 conference) trailed by eight at halftime and then struggled with poor shooting in the second half.

Concordia (14-7, 6-2), meanwhile, had six players scored in double figures, led by Niecee Madrigals 12 points.

The Cavs shot 50 percent to Easterns 36, had 44 rebounds to Easterns 40 and had four fewer turnovers and 12 more assists.

Easterns Julie Coffin scored 23 points and was 7-for-13 from the field. Brooke Sellards had 16 points but was 5-for-16 from the field. Danielle Dianda came off the bench to score 14 points.

Eastern started the season with a loss to Puget Sound but won its next 14 games, including conference games against league contenders Southern Oregon and Western Baptist.

The win streak boosted the Mountaineers into last weeks NAIA top 25 poll at No. 18. Concordia had been at No. 19 the previous week but fell out after a loss to Western Baptist.

The Mountaineers return to the road this weekend for games Friday against Evergreen State in Olympia, Wash. and Saturday against Northwest in Kirkland, Wash.
