JOSEPH BOYS OUTLAST NYSSA ON THE ROAD

NYSSA The Joseph Eagles won their second game in four days over the Nyssa Bulldogs.

Behind 24 points from Marcus Wells, the Eagles outpointed the Bulldogs 61-49 in Tuesdays Wapiti League boys basketball game.

Nyssa made a furious rally in the fourth quarter, but it came with Josephs subs in the game.

We were up 22 late in the fourth quarter, Joseph coach Ron Lathrop said. They threw a full-court press on once we put our subs in.

The game was a makeup of one snowed out Jan. 3. Joseph (17-1 overall, 8-0 league) also beat Nyssa 70-42 on Saturday.

JOSEPH GIRLS HANG ON BEHIND GANOS' 15

NYSSA The Joseph girls built an early lead and held on at the end to beat Nyssa 44-37 in Wapiti League action Tuesday.

Joseph led 22-10 at halftime.

We came out flat-footed in the fourth quarter and kind of let them back into the game, the Eagles coach Wendy McDaniel said. I was impressed with how we they kept our composure in the fourth quarter.

Lea Ganos led Joseph (4-11, 2-6) with 15 points, and Anna Yost added 10 points.

Joseph plays Friday against Pine-Eagle in Halfway and hosts Imbler Saturday.

FUN RUN TACKLES COLD WEATHER OVER 6K

The Freeze Your Fanny fun run/walk will be held Saturday in La Grande.

The 6-kilometer course is designed for all levels of ability. The race starts and finishes at Eastern Oregon Universitys Quinn Coliseum.

Registration is at 8:30 a.m. in room 127 of Quinn Coliseum, and the race starts at 9 a.m. A social gathering featuring orange juice and cookies will follow.

The run is free to runners younger than 18 years old and members of the Grande Ronde Road Runners club, which is sponsoring the race. Non-members must pay $2 to run, but annual membership in the club costs $10 and applications are available at registration.
