Union center Steenstra leaves game with arm injury

NYSSA The Union Bobcats may have lost more than Fridays Wapiti League boys basketball game against the Nyssa Bulldogs.

Center Jordi Steenstra left the game in the fourth quarter with an injured arm after a collision and a fall to the floor. Nyssa came back in the second half to win 44-34.

It was a real physical beating tonight, Nyssa coach George Shimer said. We packed it in on defense. We stopped them inside.

Steenstra had 14 points when he joined a fourth-quarter scramble for a loose ball. He got the ball and went to drive to the basket, but collided with a Nyssa player and fell to the court.

Mitch Holliday led Nyssa (6-14 overall, 5-4 league) with 14 points. Jeremy Shankel added 12 points for Union (7-10, 3-6).

The Bobcats host Pine-Eagle today.

Elgin over Enterprise

ELGIN Elgins Tyler Davis was one of the factors in the Huskies win Friday over Enterprise.

Davis finished with 22 points, including nine in the fourth quarter. Those nine points held off Enterprise 50-46 in Wapiti League boys basketball action.

Elgin coach Kyle Evans said the team did not shoot the ball well, but that they stepped it up down the stretch.

Evans said his two sophomores, Skyler Payne and Brandon Evans did well playing under pressure.

Justin Harris scored 17 points for Elgin (10-6, 5-4).

Kyle Crawford of Enterprise (5-12, 3-6) scored 19 points. Grady Rawls added 11.

Joseph grinds out win

HALFWAY The Joseph Eagles were tired but they still ground out a 69-55 victory Friday over Pine-Eagle.

It was a tough game, Joseph coach Ron Lathrop said.

The teams combined for 39 fouls, but Joseph (18-1, 9-0) outscored Pine-Eagle 24-19 in the fourth quarter.

Dollen Stroup had an excellent all-around game tonight, Lathrop said. Stroup finished with nine points and 11 assists.

The Eagles were playing their fourth game in eight days all wins. They play their fifth in nine days today at Imbler.

Imbler outshoots Cougs

WALLOWA Wallowa coach Gerry McLain is blunt about why his Cougars lost 52-39 Friday night to the Imbler Panthers.

I hate to say this, but we shot 25 percent for the game, McLain said. We get good shots, our defense was good. We play good ball; we just cant shoot.

Imbler pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring Wallowa 13-6. Brandon Campbell had 14 points for Imbler (13-6, 8-1), and Tanner McIntosh and Colin Culbreth each scored 10 points.

Wallowa (7-11, 2-7) got 13 points from Randy Spaur and 10 from Casey Smergut.

Wallowa hosts Enterprise today, and Imbler visits Joseph.
