Union Countys financial operations for 2000-01 were awarded a high grade by the county auditors.

Mike Poe of Snyder, Seydel, Lewis, Poe & Moeller LLC, certified public accountants, reported Wednesday to the county commissioners that the county records were in excellent condition. The county has an appropriate internal control system for its size.

Poe made a few suggestions, including better organization of government grant applications and improvement in the road departments inventory controls.

Poe also recommended that the county prepare an inventory of certain items that can be used for personal use, such as computers, video cameras, handguns, and VCRs. Most of the items cost less than $5,000, which is the countys threshold for fixed assets.

The audit shows that Union County collected nearly $2.8 million in tax revenues for the 2000-01 fiscal year, and nearly $2.9 million in other fees and revenues.
