BOYS: ELGIN UPSETS IMBLER; JOSEPH CLINCHES

IMBLER The Elgin Huskies blew their lead, then came from behind Friday to win an important Wapiti League boys basketball game over the Imbler Panthers.

Jake Williams scored 12 points to lead Elgin to a 54-45 upset over Imbler. The win cut Imblers second-place lead over Elgin to one game, but more importantly, kept Elgin a game ahead of fourth-place Nyssa.

Nyssa hosts Imbler today, and Elgin hosts last-place Pine-Eagle.

Elgin (12-6 overall, 7-4 league) led by 12 at halftime but gave up the lead early in the fourth quarter and trailed by three, 45-42, with four minutes to play.

Imbler (13-8, 8-3) didnt score again, and Elgin closed with a 12-0 run.

Ryan McKone and Brandon Burgess each scored 10 points for Elgin. Tanner McIntosh led Imbler with 10 points.

JOSEPH POUNDS UNION

JOSEPH The Joseph Eagles clinched the Wapiti League boys basketball title with a 73-43 victory Friday over the Union Bobcats.

Tyler Nall had 19 points and Dollen Stroup added 16 points to lead Joseph, which improved to 20-1 overall, 11-0 in league.

Nall and Stroup also had eight and seven assists respectively.

We passed the ball real well tonight, Joseph coach Ron Lathrop said.

Levi Stubblefield added 11 points for the Eagles, who led 46-17 at halftime, and Cole Lathrop had 10 points.

Union (8-11, 4-7) got 14 points from Jordi Steenstra.

ENTERPRISE LOSES IN 4TH

ENTERPRISE Enterprises fourth quarter woes continued Friday as it lost to Nyssa, 56-45.

Enterprise was able to get close, but couldnt come back completely against the Bulldogs.

I was pleased, Enterprise coach Duff Pace said. We battled back in the fourth quarter within two points.

Kyle Crawford nailed 12-of-15 from the free throw line, Pace said, and closed with a game-high 26 points, but none of his teammates scored in double figures.

I was pleased with the effort the boys put out, Pace said. We came up short again.

WALLOWA WINS SEE-SAW

HALFWAY A close game ended in triumph for the Wallowa boys Friday. The Cougars (9-11, 4-7) survived Pine-Eagle on the road, winning 55-52.

It was just a hard-fought game, Wallowa coach Gerry McLain said.

The score went back and forth, and McLain said Wallowa was fortunate to have the ball at the end.

Shane Byers led the Cougars with 15 points, while Casey Smergut added 10 points.

COVE SCORES 96 IN WIN

ADRIAN Cove won its last game of the Old Oregon League season on the road Friday against Adrian. Cove (3-14, 3-7) stomped Adrian 96-57.

The first half was back and forth, Cove coach Todd Gorham said. We settled down in the third and exploded.

That was when Cove scored 34 points and wiped out any chance Adrian would win.

The Leopards finished the season with two-straight wins.

Justin Marler scored 30 points for Cove, nearly equalling his Thursday performance of 31 points against Crane.

SENIORS CARRY BADGERS

NORTH POWDER Powder Valleys seniors took over the game in the fourth quarter.

Brody Turner scored 27 points, Justin Heffernan had 22 and Riley Martin added 19 as the Badgers won their last home game of the season, 82-62 over Crane.

The seniors just took it over and finished the ball game strong, Powder Valley coach Blake Jones said.
