PENDLETON A balanced attack from the Enterprise girls basketball team left Amity bewildered Tuesday in the first round of the OSAA-U.S. Bank Class 2A Basketball State Championships.

It was a great night for balance, Enterprise coach Mike Crawford said after his team dispatched the Warriors 59-40.

Enterprise (20-5) trailed by three points at halftime, but the team was just getting warmed up. In the third quarter, Enterprise poured on the points.

Justinn Christensen scored just five seconds into the quarter. Then about a minute later, Ashley Anderson sank two free throws. Soon after that, Kazzie Dawson made an easy basket off an assist from Anderson.

Finally, Michelle Gardner found herself wide open for a 3-pointer from the top of the arc with 4:31 in the third giving Enterprise a six-point advantage 32-26.

Amity was unable to defend when the scoring came from many different players.

I think it was a tough matchup, Crawford said. It kind of got away from them.

When Amity scored its first basket of the second half at the 3:40 mark, Enterprise could not be stopped offensively, scoring three consecutive baskets before Amity coach Jeff Flood called a timeout. At that point, the score was 40-28.

Dawson led Enterprise with 12 points. Her teammate Anderson had 11 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.

Haley Stapleton was the leading scorer for Amity with 16.

Enterprise moves on to the championship quarterfinals today against Santiam. Santiam beat Enterprise by five points during the preseason.

This will be a good chance to show were a different team from then, Crawford said.
