LEWISTON The Eastern Oregon baseball team lost to Albertson 7-1 Monday at the Paffile Trucking Tournament.

Albertson pitcher Chris Eggleston pitched seven strong innings against the Mountaineers, striking out 10 batters and allowing just four hits.

Eastern made four errors.

Even though Eastern (1-3) finished the tournament with only one win, coach Wes McAllaster saw some bright spots.

I think the biggest thing is the opportunity to get out and play, he said. That felt good. I think in terms of the weekend as a whole, it was pretty positive. There were some good things we did.

McAllaster said the pitching was pretty good, but his pitchers have to work on throwing quality pitches, such as the curve ball and change up.

All in all, I was pretty pleased with the weekend, he said. Winning would be a bigger pleasure. We got one.

Catcher Tommy Porter had a good weekend, McAllaster said. Porter carried the offensive load and made good plays behind the plate to keep the team in the game, he said.

Porters home run Monday, his first of the season, scored Easterns lone run.

The Mountaineers next play Friday in the Jugs Baseball Spring Classic on the west side of the state. Fridays 2:30 p.m. game is against Lewis & Clark in Portland.
