John Tuck gave the home crowd at La Grande High School a stellar performance over the weekend, and in the process gave himself an early birthday present.

Tuck captured titles in the freestyle and Greco Roman divisions at the state youth wrestling tournament.

Tuck, a fourth-grader at Island City School, wrestled at 87 pounds in the midget classification. He was one of 18 participants from the La Grande Wrestling Club at the state tourney, held at the LHS gym Saturday and Sunday. Tuck, who turned 10 today, was the only La Grande grappler to win a title both days.

On Saturday, in the freestyle division, Travis Huffman won a title in the bantam class at 55 pounds, and D.J. May topped the novice class at 95 pounds.

Second-place finishers included Tracey Huffman (midget, 65 pounds), Jered Witty (midget, 75), Luke Kevan (novice, 100) and Andrew Huddleston (novice, 130).

Dino May (schoolboy, 120) placed third. Fourth-place finishers included Michael Godfrey (schoolboy, 115) and Andy Godfrey (novice, 90). Kyle Witty (schoolboy, 110) and Hesstonn Minica (novice, 140) took fifth, and Luke Stonebreaker (midget, 65) and Annie Younggren (novice, 112) were sixth.

Other La Grande club participants included Robbie Smith, Gary Cornford, Chase Shirley and Joe Anderson.

On Sunday, in the Greco Roman division, Tracey Huffman won the 55-pound bantam weight class.

Huddleston (novice, 130) took second, and Michael Godfrey (schoolboy, 115) was third.

Fourth place went to Minica (novice, 140) and Andy Godfrey (novice, 90). Cornford (midget, 60), Anderson (midget, 70) and Younggren (novice, 112) finished sixth.
