THE DALLES The La Grande boys golf team did a whole lot better in its second tournament Friday.

(We did) great, La Grande coach Don McAndie said. We got second.

The team had a score of 363 in its season-opener in Clarkston, Wash., last week. At The Dalles, La Grande scored 315.

We played pretty well, McAndie said.

La Grandes Tyler Tucker was the tournament medalist with a 71.

He shot even par on the course today, McAndie said. He really had a great day for us. He played really well. Everything was working.

Right behind him was Todd McAndie and Willie Vaughn with 81s. Bill Waldrop followed with 82 and Cody Presley shot 91.

McAndie said putting revealed the difference in the final scores. All of the teams could putt on regular greens, except La Grande, which has had to practice on temporary greens at the La Grande Country Club, he said.

Were just going to work hard on the course, he said.

Hood River won the tournament with a 309. Oregon City finished third with 319. Pendleton was fourth with 323. Fifth place went to Madris with 336. Sixth place went to Hermiston with 337.

McAndie said defeating Class 4A schools Pendleton and Hermiston in just La Grandes second tournament was nice.

It was kind of a good boost for us, he said.

La Grandes next competition is April 1 at the Wildhorse Invitational.

Were only getting better, McAndie said. Its early yet.
