Della Baker blows out a candle at her 105th birthday party at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation center in La Grande Monday. Looking on is her son, Delmar Baker of Casa Grande, Ariz. Helping is the care centers activity director, Donna Duncan. Della, born in Nebraska on April 8, 1897, worked as a corn picker and husker on the cornfield her parents owned. Due to the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, Della and her family moved to Oregon in 1939 in a Model T Ford and settled in the Baker area, where they farmed. She calls Delmar frequently and he visits her four times a year. (THE OBSERVER/PHIL BULLOCK).
