PENDLETON Shannon Talbott couldnt say how much breaking the single-season scoring and rebounding records of Enterprise High School Wednesday night meant to her.

It will mean a lot after Saturday, Talbott said. Right now Im looking forward to the next game.

Thanks to a 62-48 quarterfinal victory over East Linn Christian, Enterprises next game will be in the semifinals at the OSAA-U.S. Bank Class 2A State Girls Basketball Tournament. Enterprise will play Portland Christian at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Pendleton Convention Center.

I know we have the ability to play with them, Enterprise coach Mike Crawford said. There will be plenty of energy out there any time you play in the state semifinals.

Talbott had most of the energy from the tipoff against East Linn Christian (20-7). From the moment she scored from underneath the basket to give Enterprise (24-3) a 5-0 lead, she served notice she would not be easily stopped.

In two games, nobody has been able to keep her away from the basket.

Im still waiting for my good challenge, she said.

Talbott had 13 points at halftime and finished with 24. She also had 18 rebounds and has 25 in two games, on pace to tie or break her state tournament record of 51, set last year.

Talbott was in foul trouble in the first-round game against Crow, but her teammates got the fouls against East Linn Christian.

Shannon was off a little in game one, Crawford said. She was definitely on tonight.

Enterprise led by as many as 22 points in the second half before East Linn Christian rallied. The Eagles missed their first eight shots in the second half before a 3-pointer from Ruthie Bilyeu cut the lead to 43-26.

Bilyeu and Stephanie Emmert each scored nine points in a run that cut the lead to 10, 54-44, with 3:10 remaining.

The Eagles got no closer. Talbott, Michelle Gardner, Justinn Christensen and Ashley Anderson each made free throws in the final three minutes, and Talbott scored the games final points off a pass from Valerie Davis.

I knew we had it, and I knew the other team was going to make a run, Talbott said.

Crawford wasnt too concerned about the fourth-quarter offense after the game. He played around with his defense, however.

I fiddled around a little bit with my defense, he said. I showed three different zones and three different presses in the fourth quarter, just in case someone was scouting.

Enterprises defense was best in the first quarter. Enterprise had a 9-0 lead before East Linns Amy Powell made a free throw, and the lead was stretched to 15-2 before Emmert got the teams first field goal with 2:01 left in the period.

We did what we had to do, Crawford said. We came out and played good defense, established ourselves early and built a big lead.

Anderson and Becky Nash were in foul trouble in the second quarter. Nash, who had four quick points as part of that early run, got her fourth foul in the first minute of the third quarter, then fouled out before Crawford could replace her.

Anderson got her fourth foul at the end of the third quarter, which ended with Lacey Nobles hitting a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Enterprise a 48-30 lead.

The referees did not call any charging fouls, so Crawford started telling his players to make contact and draw the foul. Enterprise was 12-for-17 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Unranked East Linn had upset fifth-ranked Pilot Rock in Tuesdays first-round game. Eighth-ranked Enterprise will have a tougher challenge Friday against ninth-ranked Portland Christian (24-3). The Royals returned just about everybody from the team that finished second in state a year ago.
