ISLAND CITY — La Grande's Todd McAndie and Bill Waldrop both shot 72 for low-score medalist honors Friday at the La Grande Boys Golf Invitational at the La Grande Country Club.

"Great performances," La Grande coach Don McAndie said of his varsity. "Todd and Bill Waldrop had great rounds."

His son shaved six strokes on the back nine, McAndie said.

"The real surprise was Nick Cornford," he said. Cornford shot an "amazing 81" for the La Grande JV team, McAndie said. Cornford shot a 38 on the back nine. "That's a great score for Nick," coach McAndie said.

The La Grande varsity finished 10 strokes behind Pendleton's first-place score of 308.

Tyler Tucker followed Waldrop and McAndie with an 82. Next was Cody Presley with 92, then Justin Deal with 97.

The La Grande JV finished sixth.

After Cornford was Ricky Gloria with an 83, Jeremy Williams at 87, Simon Arnold with 94, and Nick Drey with 101.

Enterprise's fifth-place finish was led by Corey Siebe's 82, followed by Kyle Crawford with 83, Grady Rawls' 85, Nathan Slinker's 96 and Derek Huff's 87.

Most local teams are competing Monday at pre-district tournaments at the Wildhorse Golf Course in Mission, the site of district tournaments May 6.
