REDMOND — The La Grande Tigers boys golf team finished four strokes out of a trophy Tuesday at the OSAA-U.S. Bank Class 3A Boys Golf State Championships.

La Grande finished in sixth place with a 656, behind the fourth-place tie between La Salle and Baker at 652.

Likewise, La Grande's Bill Waldrop and Tyler Tucker finished one stroke off the all-tournament team, tying for 12th place with 158s. They had the seventh-lowest score.

Sophomores Tucker and Waldrop had good days Tuesday to get into that position. Tucker had a 75, the fifth-best score of the day, on the par-72 Resort Course at the Eagle Crest Resort. Waldrop was sixth on the day with a 76.

"They both played very well. They were more focused and less stressed on the second day," La Grande coach Don McAndie said.

La Grande's Todd McAndie, a sophomore, was 17th with a 161 after shooting an 81 Tuesday. Senior Willie Vaughn was 50th with a 179 and a 91 on Tuesday.

Freshman Ricky Gloria shot an 81 Tuesday but signed for a wrong scorecard. He brought it to the officials' attention and disqualified himself.

"It took a lot of character and integrity to do that," Don McAndie said. "He did such a great job for us over the season that I can't thank him enough."

Tillamook won the state title with a two-stroke victory over Sisters. Digger Cokley of Astoria was the tournament champion with a two-day 151.
