2A TEAMS PREP FOR STATE MEET

MONMOUTH — Local Class 2A track and field teams will finish their season Friday and Saturday at the OSAA-U.S. Bank Track and Field State Championships.

Squads from Joseph, Enterprise, Wallowa, Elgin, Imbler and Union are competing at the two-day meet at Western Oregon University.

Several local individuals are among the top-seeded athletes in their events.

For the girls, Elgin has two top-seeded athletes. Amber Looslie had the fastest seeding time in the 400 meters (59.70 seconds), and Ashley Rysdam (10 feet, 2 inches) and Deleah Wiles (9-8) are 1-2 in the pole vault.

Imbler's Tiffany Rasmussen is the top javelin thrower going into state (140-4), and Enterprise's Maya Waldron is ranked second in the high jump (5-5).

Imbler's boys had the fastest 400-meter relay team seeding time (44.34). The Panthers' Tyson Hoskins is ranked second in the 200 (23.13) and Colin Culbreth is ranked third in the 300 intermediate hurdles (40.95), right behind Wallowa's Shane Byers (40.92).

Wallowa's Nick Johnson and Elgin's Brandon Burgess are tied for the second-fastest 800 time (2:03.45). Elgin's Josh Hamill has the third-best triple jump mark (41-9), and Joseph's Marcus Wells is ranked third in the 400 (51.76).

Friday's finals include the 3,000, pole vault, javelin, high jump, long jump and discus. Prelims in all other running events except the 1,500 will also take place.

The finals for the 1,500 and all other running and field events will be Saturday, as well as the Class 1A meet.
