Thunder showers were held at bay Monday morning as a crowd gathers at Grandview Cemetery in La Grande for Memorial Day services. Over 100 flags paying homage to departed veterans were displayed in stunning formation along the road through the cemetery for the 16th annual Avenue of Flags. Speakers focused on the need for continuing support to be given to those fighting for Operation Enduring Freedom, and honoring all who have served in wars – past and present. The event was sponsored by American Legion Post No. 43, Veterans of Foreign Wars Nos. 2990 and 4060, Disabled Americans Veterans Chapter No. 21 and Sons of the American Legion, Squad No. 43.
