BOARDMAN Drew Fischer had two home runs and the La Grande Tigers had two solid pitching performances in their two-game sweep Friday of Riverside.

The Tigers evened their Greater Oregon League and overall records with a pair of 6-3 and 8-3 victories.

Overall, in both ball games, we played really good defense, La Grande coach Dennis Young said. We played much better defense this weekend than the past

weekend.

Fischer had a solo home run to left field in the third game that gave La Grande a 3-1 lead. In the second game, he had a two-out, two-run shot to left center field that put the Tigers on top 2-0.

Riverside came back to tie the game each time, but La Grandes offense didnt stop with Fischer.

Andy Van Sickle was 4-for-6 in the two games. He had a two-run single in the first inning of the first game, then drove in a third run in the seventh inning. In the second game, he scored one of four runs in the sixth inning that put that game out of reach.

He came up with a lot of clutch hits in both ballgames, Young said. Its nice to see a lot of guys step up and do a good job.

Kyle Ingerson struck out 11 Pirates in the first game and got his fourth win of the year. He struggled a bit in the third inning, when a pair of walks and two Riverside doubles tied the game for the Pirates.

But Riverside had just two hits off Ingerson in the next four innings.

He just kind of got the ball up in the zone in that third inning, Young said. Then he settled down.

Corey Royal had eight strikeouts for his second win in the second game. The only batter to give Royal trouble was Josh Reeve, who had two home runs that accounted for the Pirates three runs.

La Grande improved to 8-8 overall, 2-2 in the GOL. The Tigers next play Friday at home against Baker.
