The hot, dry weather of the week has brought some restrictions for users of national forests, but camping and other recreational activities may continue.

Industrial use has been restricted on the Wallowa-Whitman, except for one small area on Mount Emily, and in the Heppner and North Fork John Day ranger districts of the Umatilla forest.

Under the restrictions, power saws, except at loading sites; cable yarding, blasting and welding or any metal cutting are prohibited from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Firewood cutting is allowed, but wood cutters must carry a shovel and an 8-ounce capacity fire extinguisher.

The forests are urging all campers and others to be especially careful in the record heat and low humidity.
