Twenty-six teams participated in the 23rd annual men's moonlight softball tournament at Pioneer Park this past weekend.

AC Electric of La Grande won the tournament. McNary Market of Umatilla was runner-up. Midway Tavern of Hermiston was third, Wrangler Construction of Bend was fourth, Pendleton Merchants was tied for fifth with Fleetwood Trailers of La Grande, the Long Branch of La Grande and Graybeal Distributing of Hermiston tied for seventh and Hermiston Merchants got consolation.

The All-Stars of the tournament were: Dan Garton of Graybeal; Jesse Enright of Pendleton Merchants; Shannon Hively of the Long Branch; Corey Arnold of Fleetwood Trailers; Travis Sayers and Casey Tolan of Midway Tavern; Chris Lytle and Jerry Show of Wrangler Construction; Steve Brinkley, Cody Neddo and Mike Kitchens of McNary Market; and Paul Phillips, Joe Near and Neil Abel of AC Electric.

The tournament was sponsored by the Optimist Club and proceeds from the concession stand, which was run by the La Grande's Eighth-grade Philadelphia Trip group, will go toward youth programs in La Grande.

The Observer Monday reported that 32 teams were expected in the tournament.

Randy Miles of the Optimist Club said five teams — Grants Pass, Baker, Sweet Home, Walla Walla and Tri-Cities — did not show up because members were fighting fires in Oregon and Washington. One team did not have enough players.
