Around 150 participants from Idaho, Washington and Oregon will be competing in the first Maverick Junior Rodeo Saturday and Sunday at the La Grande Mavericks Arena.

About 20 local young people will be competing.

There will be three divisions for both girls and boys: pee wee (8-11), juniors (12-14) and seniors (15-18).

There will be bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc, calf roping, ribbon roping, chute dogging, goat tying, breakaway roping, pole bending, barrel racing, cow/steer riding and calf tying.

The La Grande Mavericks Junior Rodeo Association merged with the Cayuse Junior Rodeo Association in order to present this weekend's event.

Admission is free. Those attending are encouraged to bring a canned food donation for the Salvation Army.

Saturday's performance starts at 1 p.m.

Slack begins at 8 a.m. Sunday, followed by the final performance at 10 a.m.
