Ashley Rysdam, a standout scholar-athlete from Elgin, received a $2,000 MacTarnahan scholarship at a ceremony at Nike's Beaverton campus earlier this month.

She was one of six scholar-athletes awarded a MacTarnahan Scholarship during the ceremony.

Rysdam and each of the scholarship winners were shown individually on a large screen during the ceremony. Each of the scholarship winners walked onto the stage in a spotlight which followed them out.

"I was a little nervous,'' Rysdam said. She said she felt honored and was excited.

Rysdam graduated from Elgin High School in May with 4.0 cumulative grade point average. In high school, she won two state Class 2A pole vault titles, twice was a first-team All-Wapiti League selection in basketball and was a second-team All-Wapiti League selection in volleyball.

Rysdam will attend Eastern Oregon University and compete in track and field. She is the daughter of Jess and Shellie Rysdam.

Rysdam was awarded the scholarship during the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Those inducted were broadcaster Bob Blackburn and former major league baseball player Wally Backman.
