SOME AREA STUDENTS RETURN TO CLASS MONDAY

School bells will start ringing in many Union and Wallowa county school districts beginning Monday.

Classes in four Union and Wallowa school districts begin on that date. All school districts in the two counties will be operating within the next two weeks.

Here are the opening dates:

• Cove School District — Classes begin Wednesday for students in grades 9-12. School for students in grades 1-8 begins Sept. 3. Kindergarten begins Sept. 4.

• Elgin School District — Sept. 3 is the first day of school for all students.

• Enterprise School District — The first day of school for all students is Thursday.

• Imbler School District — School for all students begins Monday.

• Joseph School District — The first day of school for all students is Monday.

• La Grande School District — The first day for seventh and ninth-graders is Sept. 3. The first day for the rest of the students in grades 1-12 is Sept. 4.

Kindergarten students will have a staggered start. They will attend class one day during the Sept. 4-6 period. Parents will be notified of which day their child is to attend. All kindergarten students will start attending school regularly beginning Sept. 9.

• North Powder School District — School for students in kindergarten through 12th grade begins Monday. Preschool for 4-year-olds starts on Sept. 10.

• Union School District — School for all students begins on Sept. 3.

• Wallowa School District — The first day of school for all students is Monday.
