BAKER — The La Grande girls are making sure that every night is a long one for coach Teresa Dowdy.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing. The girls won their first Greater Oregon League match against Baker Thursday, but it wasn't easy. The score was 25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21. Most of the girls' matches have been tight this year, and Dowdy said the Baker match could have easily gone either way.

"It was a little too close for me, but we came out with a win, that's all we need to talk about," said Dowdy.

Kelli Greenough led the way with 13 kills, while Kaci Lyman had 11 kills.

Kathryn Ely put 24 of 25 serves into play with five aces, while Caylin Goss served 15-15 with three aces. Erin Henjum served 14-15, and Danielle Tams put 15 out of 16 serves into play.

The Tiger girls are 1-1 in league now, and 3-2 overall.
