COUNTY CANDIDATES TO DEBATE

October 09, 2002 12:00 am

Candidates for Union County commissioner will square off in a debate at 7 p.m. Thursday at McKenzie Theatre at Eastern Oregon University.

John Lamoreau, a Republican, is challenging John Howard, a Democrat, for the position Howard has held for four terms. The debate is co-sponsored by KCMB-FM and EOU. The debate will not be broadcast on KCMB.

The candidates will each be given five minutes for opening statements. They will then be asked a series of questions from panelists Ken Kennedy of KCMB and Alice Perry Linker and Ted Kramer of The Observer. KCMB News Director Andrew Holt will serve as moderator.

Candidates will each have two minutes to respond to the question, and the candidate who answered first will be allowed a one-minute rebuttal. Candidates will alternate answers.

The candidates will be given five minutes each for closing statements.

An open house for all candidates in Union County will precede the debate from 6 to 6:45 p.m. in the Loso Hall foyer. A reception will follow the debate.
