An early morning accident Sunday on Cove Avenue caused injuries that sent one person by air to Oregon Health Sciences University and resulted in a power outage that affected one-third of the county.

La Grande police reported that Jacquelynn Dahlgren, 29, of 1806 26th St., was driving when her vehicle went off the road and struck a power pole, cutting it in half. The accident occurred about 1 a.m., police said.

Dahlgren was taken by ambulance to Grande Ronde Hospital, where she was listed in good condition with a broken clavicle this morning. The passenger, Justin Goss, 23, no address given, was flown early Sunday to Portland. The extent of his injuries is not known.

About one-third of Union County, including La Grande and Island City, was without power as a result of the accident, according to Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative. Most OTEC customers were dark from 1 to 2:15 a.m. and about 600 customers did not have power restored until 6 a.m.

Dahlgren was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, police said, and other charges are pending.
