THE DALLES — La Grande's Travis Carson won two matches at 160 pounds in the Tigers' opening meet Friday against The Dalles.

Assistant Coach Miles Hancock said The Dalles meet was a "good icebreaker" to get the young La Grande squad ready for the big Muilenburg Tournament coming up Dec. 13 in La Grande. Eighteen different teams will attend that two-day meet.

Carson won his first match in a fall, and his second match in a technical fall.

Some of the younger wrestlers did well, too. Winning one match and losing one were freshman Bryan Boothman at 119 pounds, freshman Dino May at 135 pounds, junior Tony Lambert at 145, and senior Daniel Wells at 215. Hancock said some of the freshmen wrestlers had an "outstanding" day.

In junior varsity wrestling, James Cox went 3-0 at 140 pounds, while Kendrick Neustral at 160 pounds also won.
