PORTLAND — It was not pretty, but the Eastern Oregon basketball women will take the 65-60 Cascade Collegiate Conference win over Concordia Tuesday.

Eastern had not played in 11 days, and the rust showed in the first half as the Mountaineers began the game 4-for-24 from the field.

"We weren't in game mode," Eastern coach Anji Weissenfluh said. "It took a while."

She said the team was in fast forward and played hurried and rushed, leading to traveling violations and missed shots.

Eastern (3-4 overall, 1-0 CCC) settled down with five minutes remaining in the first half and Concordia ahead 28-14. The Mountaineers got 11 unanswered points from Tricia Haddock and Jamie Jo Cant to inch within three 28-25. Concordia scored six straight points to end the half up 34-29.

"In the second half, we just slowly kind of chipped away at the lead," Weissenfluh said.

She said free throws were huge as Eastern went to the line 30 times compared to 10 for Concordia.

Cant took four charges, three in the second half, which were key, Weissenfluh added.

Weissenfluh said Haddock stepped up her game by shooting the ball better, being a strong leader on the court and by getting the team into its offense.

Concordia led 52-51 with 5:12 to go, but Eastern went on a 7-3 run for a 58-55 lead with 3:36 left.

Concordia's Christy Rickert hit a three to tie the game at 58-58. Both teams exchanged scores and Cant's jumper with one minute left gave Eastern a 61-60 advantage. Cant added two free throws down the stretch.

Cant led all scorers with 26, while Haddock had 11.

Rickert paced Concordia with 17 points, followed by Amanda Tweedy with 13 and Korey Beeler with 10.

Eastern plays at Western Baptist today.
