COMMUNITY RUN DRAWS 21 PARTICIPANTS

FIVE MILES TO GO: Runners depart the starting line Saturday at the Benchwarmer's Fun Run in La Grande. The course took 21 runners along Jefferson Street to Second Street, across Blackhawk Lane and along Spruce and Monroe streets before returning over the Second Street viaduct and finishing near Benchwarmer's. Patty Hankel of Benchwarmer's plans to make the run an annual event. Mike Dunlavey of La Grande took top honors at the Benchwarmers Pub Community Run Saturday.

Dunlavey ran the five-mile course in 31 minutes, 1 second. Doug Johnson of Homer, Alaska, took second in 31:10.

In the womens overall, Diane Grandeen of Elgin won in 36:42. Dorene Schuette of La Grande was second in 36:53.

Mark DeViney of La Grande topped the mens masters division in 31:49. Russ West of Union was second in 35:13.

The run featured 21 runners. The top two finishers in each division received prizes sponsored by Patti Hankel of Benchwarmers. The La Grande Roadrunners Club organized the run.
