The emergency food box cupboards are packed, thanks to a record amount of canned and dried foods donated by La Grande residents Saturday.

Carmen Gentry of Community Connection said 18,000 pounds of food were picked up from mailboxes during the day-long letter carriers food drive.

I think this is the biggest food drive weve ever had, Gentry said. I cant believe how well this community pulled together.

It keeps getting better every year.

The letter carriers had set a goal of 10,000 pounds.

Community Connections food bank provides canned, dried and fresh foods to several emergency food box programs throughout the county. The food is distributed to individuals and families who have a need.
