ISLAND CITY — La Grande boys' golf coach Don McAndie said that if his kids keep up their good work, a state title could be there for the taking.

The Tigers boys won the La Grande Invitational by 30 strokes. La Grande shot a 298, with Baker at 328.

The Enterprise boys came in third with a 335.

La Grande had four boys shoot under 80. Todd McAndie shot two eagles on the same hole and won medalist honors with a 1-over par 73. Teammate Tyler Tucker was second with a 74, while Bill Waldrop was third with a 75, and Ricky Gloria was fifth with a 76. Nick Cornford shot an 83.

"This was a solid team effort today. They played an excellent round. Scores like this would win us the state championship," said coach McAndie.

Grady Rawls led Enterprise with a 79. Nathan Slinker shot an 84, Kevin Gomes 85, and Derek Huff and Jake Thompson each shot an 87.

Enterprise coach Mike Crawford said Rawls had a good day, but the rest of his golfers could have done better. Enterprise beat Baker at a tournament last week.

"Actually, I was a little disappointed," he said. "we've definitely done better than we showed today."

Crawford said nearly every golfer on the team had at least one bad hole that hurt his overall score.

The La Grande junior varsity finished seventh with a solid 352. Christian Siltanen shot an 83, Sam Young an 85, Corey Steele a 92, Nick Drey a 92, John Hine a 94 and Jeremy Williams a 109.
