ONTARIO — The goal for the La Grande Tiger softball team: 10 wins.

"If we win our next 10 games, we'll take first in the Greater Oregon League," La Grande coach Nicole Christian said.

The Tigers (6-3 GOL) host No. 5 Riverside at 3 p.m. Thursday in Island City.

The Tigers lost the first game 6-2 then came away with a 6-4 win against Ontario Saturday.

Christian said the Tigers were not making the adjustment to the slow pitches from Ontario in game one.

She said the girls got an eye-opener in Ontario after their big non-league sweep over 4A Hermiston last week.

Christian said the Tigers were hitting many line drives, pop-ups and bloopers.

"We underestimated Ontario," Christian said.

"The players came out and were not game-focused, I think."

Ontario pitchers Jena Ogawa and Stacy limited the Tigers to two runs in the fifth.

Tiger pitcher Megan Caldwell asked to come out of the game because she was not getting the calls.

Amanda Marcum came in to pitch the rest of the game.

Game two was a different story for the Tigers.

Marcum pitched until the fourth before Caldwell came in to finish the game.

"I think we made the adjustments to hit," Christian said. "We didn't score until the fifth."

Caylin Goss and Marcum hit back-to-back singles, then Jennifer Funkhouser's sacrifice scored Marcum.

In the sixth, Danielle Tams led off with a double, then Caldwell hit a sacrifice.

Goss hit a one-run single followed by another Marcum single scoring Goss.

Meghan Henderson hit a single in the seventh, followed by Funkhouser's double and Caldwell's single.

Beth Wolford hit a single in the doubleheader.

Kinsey Chadwick stole one base, Tams had one and Henderson had two.
