JOHN DAY — Powder Valley's Shauna Nelson was a triple winner at the John Day Track Invitational Saturday.

Nelson won the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches); 1,500-meter run (5 minutes, 55.23 seconds); and 800 (2:44:07).

Nelson helped the Powder Valley girls take second at the meet. Teammate Joelle Bain won the 200 (27.15).

The Cove girls finished third. Karen Myhrum won the 100 (13.26), Kelcie Robinson the discus (116-8), and Kathy Mann the pole vault (8-6).

Robinson was second in the 800 and Mann was second in the 100 hurdles.

Cove's Lisa Scheele was third in the long jump and triple jump, and fourth in the 400. Cove's relay finished fifth.

Elgin's Amber Looslie cracked the one minute mark in the 400 in 59.64. That is within .24 of a second of the best 1A/2A time in the state.

Looslie was second in the 100 and 200. Elgin coach Mike Somnis said Looslie, normally an 800 runner, was working on her sprinting at this meet.

Elgin's Josh Hamill won the high jump (6-1). Brittany Beedle won the 3,000 (11:57). Nick Southard was second in the triple jump (39-10), a personal best.

Elgin will compete at the Small Schools Invite at 2:30 p.m. Friday at La Grande High School.

Cove will travel to Nyssa for the Old Oregon League meet Friday. Jordan Valley is hosting the event at Nyssa.
