BAKER CITY — Missing one of their top golfers, the La Grande golf boys showed how dominant they are, winning the Baker Invitational Wednesday by 15 strokes.

But, the story of the day belongs to a junior varsity golfer, Christian Siltanen.

Siltanen shot a very solid 82, thanks in large part to a hole in one he shot on hole No. 3, a 95-yard, par 3. It was the first hole-in-one ever for Siltanen.

"He's pretty excited about that," said coach Don McAndie. McAndie said Siltanen just barely overshot the cup, then the backspin he put on the shot spun the ball back into the hole.

The team played without Tyler Tucker, who was busy testing, but still shot a 305, beating second-place Ontario which shot a 320. The La Grande JV tied for seventh with a 349.

Todd McAndie won medalist honors with a 72, while Bill Waldrop was second with a 74. Ricky Gloria tied for third with a 76.

"Ricky Gloria really shined today," said coach McAndie.

Nick Cornford shot an 83, while Nick Drey shot a 96.

On the JV team, Sam Young shot an 84, while Cory Steele shot an 85 and John Hine a 98.

La Grande plays Friday in the Enterprise Invitational.
