VALE — A rainy afternoon may have postponed a couple tennis matches, but the La Grande tennis team did not lose its rhythm, especially on the boys' side Monday.

Levi Morrison and John Woodfield beat last year's No. 3 team at state in Ontario's Nick Babij and Josh Christenson 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

Seth Pennington and Matt Nightingale beat Ontario's Brett Haidle and Joe Armijo 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). Sean Gregory and Dan Jones won 8-0.

In singles' action, Ontario's two-time state champion Dustin Forsyth beat Aaron Nebeker 6-0, 6-0. Payton Aarestad beat Dan Thurber 6-3, 6-2.

The girls struggled against a tough Ontario team. Amanda Iseri beat Stephanie Keith 6-1, 6-4. Hannah Pobanz beat Megan Sherer 6-0, 6-1.

Kelsey Pobanz and Kristy Church beat Hilary Girrard and Haley Hines 6-1, 6-0. Heather Church and Julie Hall beat Jen Hubbard and Nikki Nielsen 6-2, 6-3. Teresa Kiemnec and Sarah Noyes beat Jenna McClean and Jerrimi Hofmann 8-5.

In addition, the La Grande tennis team also played against Vale Monday.

Nebeker beat Vale's Marius Urban 6-2, 6-2. Dan Thurber outlasted Joe Adams 5-7, 6-4, 6-0. Brenden Marshall beat Joey Meredith 8-1.

Robby Seals and Travis McFetridge beat Morrison and Woodfield 7-5, 7-5. Ryan Hart and Thomas Kamo beat Pennington and Nightingale 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Sean Gregory and Dan Jones beat Matt Johnson and Weston Carmichael 8-0.

On the girls' side, Keith beat Karissa Nelson 6-2, 6-2. Sherer beat Krystal Carmen 6-2, 2-6 (10-8). Sherer's match was delayed by rain. Herman beat Casandra Adams 6-0, 6-3. Caitlin Schoenfelder beat Yulia Shulga 8-1.

In doubles' play, Rachel Carmichael and Vicky Sanchez beat Girrard and Hines 6-0, 6-4. Hubbard and Nielsen beat Sammi Williams and Traci Romans 6-2, 3-6 (10-7). Kiemnec and Noyes beat Trish Lacey and Yulia Shulga 8-3 (10-7). They also beat Lacey and Cassie Fullerton.
