PENDLETON — The La Grande boys and girls golf teams won their district tournaments Tuesday.

The top two teams and top five finishers from the Greater Oregon League boys tourney advance to the 3A state tournament May 19-20 at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Redmond.

The Tiger boys shot 380 on Day 2 for a total of 613. Tyler Tucker was district medalist after shooting a round of 77 Tuesday. He finished with a 149 for the tournament.

Bill Waldrop finished second overall with 153. Todd McAndie was third with 154. Ricky Gloria shot a 78 Tuesday, while Nick Cornford shot an 82.

Ontario shot a 666 to finish second at the tournament.

The La Grande boys won their third district title and are hoping for a little more at state.

"We go in first," La Grande boys coach Don McAndie said. "That means we are going as a team and hopefully win the state title. We'd like to finish in the top three."

Last year, the Tigers initially finished third but one of the players signed the wrong scorecard and was disqualified. The Tigers had to take another score and ended up sixth.

On the girls' side, La Grande took first with a score of 784 in the Special District 7 Tournament. Kelli Greenough was district medalist with a 161.

Elizabeth Garton finished second with 203, while Bess Buzzard was third with 205. Elizabeth Esser shot 112 Tuesday, while Aubrey Glaze shot 107.

"We had some class ladies on this team," La Grande girls coach Lonnie Myers said. "They have self motivation, a desire to help the team and to constantly improve. They are truly a joy to watch."
