BOARDMAN —La Grande's Kristin Brogdon won the high jump with a record 5 feet, 7 inches breaking a 25-plus year mark at the Greater Oregon League district track meet Saturday.

Brogdon did not miss a jump until she went out at 5-8. She started at 4-10.

"That is very unusual for anybody," La Grande coach Joe Sandoz said.

The Tiger girls won the district title with 154 points, two more than Burns. The Tiger boys were third.

Brogdon will go to state in the high jump and triple jump. She was second in the triple jump. The top two finishers in each event qualify for state.

Crystal Kevan and Kylee Winkler had a "photo finish" in the 400-meter dash, Sandoz said.

Winkler won the race in 1 minute, 1:08 seconds. Kevan was on her heels with a 1:01.11 effort.

Kevan will also go to state in the 200.

Breezy Fredricksen won the pole vault with a lifetime best and GOL record (9-7).

"The neat thing for her is pole vault is frustrating to learn," Sandoz said. "She has for the past two weeks broken through the clouds and things are working for her."

Jessica Fulfer qualified for state in the 3,000 after Friday's performance.

"Our kids for the most part are in a position when they have their best day; they could have a little piece of the action down there except for Skyler (MacDonald)," Sandoz said.

MacDonald is seeded No. 1 after his 194-5 javelin throw. Matt Hutchinson of Newport is seeded No. 2 with a 188-0 effort.

Rick Anderson qualified for state in the triple jump (41-7) after finishing second at district.

"That was his best ever," Sandoz said. "He was in the finals and was able to move ahead and held it. For a sophomore to pull it off, it was very good."

Chris Jones won the 110 hurdles (16.34).

"He's the best looking hurdler there," Sandoz said.

Kyle Puckett won the 400 and is seeded ninth (51.59).

"That was exciting," Sandoz said. "It's just only his second 400 in the open."

Sandoz said Puckett and Riverside's Austin Haney were running together down the backstretch and final 100 meters before Puckett took off.

"Kyle just kicked in the afterburners and walked away from him," he said. "It was very dominating and fun to watch."

La Grande's girls 4 x 100 (Kevan, Amanda Timm, Kylee Winkler, Marianne stevold) also qualified for state after coming in second to Vale.

"We were ahead at the last handoff," Sandoz said. "We had some hesitation on the last handoff. We would have been right there with them and could have beaten them if we could have done that."

The Tigers leave Thursday morning for the 4A/3A state track meet in Eugene.

"We have a chance to get in some finals if we want it bad enough and things work out for us," Sandoz said.
