MOLALLA — The Mollala softball team shut out the La Grande Tigers in the first round of the OSAA Class 3A state playoffs Monday.

The Tigers (13-9 GOL) lost 2-0.

"We didn't hit well," La Grande coach Nicole Christian said. "The pitching was as good as we've seen all year."

Molalla scored its runs in the first and sixth inning. The Tigers committed three errors on the day, and two enabled Molalla to score.

Des McCoy and Amanda Marcum had hits.

"We had a couple sacs, but no hits," Christian said.

The first run was scored off a wild throw to first base and the second run scored after the ball went under the Tigers' glove.

"We couldn't put the bat on the ball," Christian said. "We didn't have a couple hard hits."

Christian said the Tigers did not play good on this day although they had been playing well during the Greater Oregon League season.

Molalla plays Wednesday against Phoenix at Colver Field.

Baker won Monday. The Bulldogs will play Glide Wednesday.

Riverside had a first-round bye. The Pirates play either Rogue River or Sutherlin Wednesday.
