CAMDEN, N.J. — Joseph High School product Dylan Moro, now a member of the Oregon State University crew team, is competing this weekend in the Intercol-legiate Rowing Association National Champion-ships.

Moro, the son of Debra and John Moro, is the coxswain on the men's varsity eight. The varsity eight made it to the semifinals of the IRA championships.

The OSU men finished fifth in their semifinal heat Friday. While the top six boats from the four semifinal races move on to the "grand finals," the second-tier of semifinalists will row today in the "petite finals."

The OSU varsity eight qualified for the petite finals.

Out of the 24 boats in the national semifinals, the OSU boat coxswained by Moro finished the 2,000-meter course with the 12th best time at 5:48.26.

The University of Washing-ton had the best semifinals time at 5:39.71.

The varsity eight advanced to the semifinals Thursday by finishing second in a preliminary repechage.

Moro, a sophomore, is in his first year as coxswain of the varsity eight boat. He was on the novice boat last year.

Moro was a basketball player and cross country runner at Joseph High School.

The OSU novice eight will also compete in its petite finals today, while the junior varsity eight will compete in the grand finals.
