TUCK AND HUFFMAN TAKE THIRD AT REGIONALS

BUTTE, Mont. — La Grande's John Tuck and Tracey Huffman took third in Greco-Roman wrestling in the Western Regional Wrestling Meet June 18-19.

Eleven states were represented at the tournament and wrestled here. The wrestlers had to place in the top six in their state tournaments earlier this year.

Tuck pinned Scott Jones of Idaho in one minute, 58 seconds to take third place in the 100-pound novice class. He lost to Nathonn Carmona of California by pin (the score was 3-3 at the time of the pin) to wrestle for third.

Tuck pinned his first four opponents to begin the tournament. He pinned Spencer McCason of Washington in 1:09, Eric Berrier of Arizona in 1:13, Brandon Barnett of Montana in 39 seconds and Justin Schreiber of Idaho in eight seconds.

Then, he lost to Jordan Rubio of California 7-6 and beat Tyler Madrid of California by technical fall 11-0 in the first period to advance further in the tournament.

Huffman defeated Seth Thomas of Oregon to take third in the 75-pound novice class.

Huffman had five straight wins in the tournament. He beat Erik Mendonca of California by technical fall 13-3 in the first period, pinned Shelby Clark of Arizona in 41 seconds, beat Christian Cole of Wyoming by technical fall 11-0 in the first period, pinned Charles Chavey of California in 1:05 and pinned Austin Bailey of Montana in 48 seconds in the second period.

He lost to Holden Packard of Idaho 12-10.
