MILTON-FREEWATER — Union County jumped out to an early lead but ended up falling to Baker 12-3 Monday at the Girls Seniors District 3 All-Stars softball tournament.

Union County led 2-0 after the top half of the first inning. Baker answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and led the rest of the game.

Union County hit the ball hard throughout the game.

"We played with a lot of heart,'' said Union County coach Paul Phillips.

Union County's top performers included April Savely who hit two home runs, going 2-4 at the plate.

Union County will play Baker again at 6 tonight. in the double-elimination tournament.

If Baker wins tonight it will advance to state. If Union County wins, the two teams will play again, with the winner qualifying for state.

The time and day of the second game, if needed, will be announced later.
