ELGIN — The Elgin Stampede is taking preregistrations for Family Night participants.

Family Night will begin at 6 p.m. July 10 at the Elgin Stampede grounds. The final preregistration will be held at the grounds from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Gretchen Jolly, who is running Family Night, said she is trying to get as many kids to preregister as possible to make Family Night run more smoothly.

She said 40 youngsters already have registered and she expects as many as 70 will eventually sign up to compete.

Events for kids 5-and-under include mutton busting, barrel racing, pole bending, goat-tail "untying," and stick-horse racing. For kids 6 to 9, there will be mutton busting, barrel racing, pole bending, goat-tail tying and calf riding.

For teens aged 10 to 18, there will be barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying and steer riding.

Anyone interested in signing up can show up at the stampede grounds Monday or call Jolly at 437-4500.

The charge for spectators at Family Night is $5 at the gate.
