PILOT ROCK OUSTS LA GRANDE MAJORS FROM TOURNEY

It was a tough exit for the La Grande Major Boys All-Stars against Pilot Rock in the District 3 Little League Tournament Monday at Pioneer Park.

La Grande jumped out to a 5-0 lead and watched Pilot Rock rally for a 9-6 win. La Grande went 0-2 in the tournament.

La Grande's Kevin Boyd lead off with a triple in the top of the first and Bryan Mills followed with a one-run single. Kole Stein's sacrifice fly gave La Grande another run in the inning. Nolan Mills belted a two-run double to center putting La Grande up 4-0.

Boyd struck out the side in the bottom of the first with the bases loaded.

A passed ball in the top of the second scored Boyd from third. La Grande stranded two runners in the inning.

In the bottom of the second, Boyd struck out the side and left one Pilot Rock runner on base.

La Grande could not get any offense going in the third inning.

In the bottom of the third, Pilot Rock scored two runs to trail 5-2. Boyd struck out the side with two Pilot Rock runners on base.

La Grande scored for the final time in the top of the fourth.

Pilot Rock tied up the game in the bottom of the frame with four runs.

Boyd struck out the side with two left on base.

In the bottom of the fifth, Nolan Mills came in to pitch.

Stein's quick reaction at second base enabled him to recover a grounder as he made a throw from his knees to record the first out. Nolan Mills surrendered a walk and then hit a Pilot Rock batter with a pitch.

With two on base, short stop Zachary Nice made a nice throw off Tanner Mitchell's grounder to second base to record the second out.

However, Pilot Rock got a one-run single to go up 7-6. Then, Nolan Mills hit another batter to set up a bases-loaded situation. A wild pitch enabled Pilot Rock to score another run.

Nolan Mills walked the next Pilot Rock runner and the score was 9-6.

Josh Yundt then came in to close out the frame with another bases-loaded opportunity. Pilot Rock hit a one-hopper to end the frame.

In the top of the sixth, La Grande's Kody Walton led off with a walk. Boyd hit a ball right inside the third base line.

Bryan Mills followed with a hit right to the second base man.

Nice hit a ball right to the first base side and the first base man threw the runner out at third to end the game.
