JOSEPH — The Enterprise Wrestling Booster Club will sponsor wrestling clinics July 31, Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 featuring some of the top wrestlers and coaches in the Pacific Northwest.

The clinics will raise money for the Enterprise Wrestling Boosters. The clinics are being held at the Joseph High School gym because the Enterprise gym is undergoing renovations.

Though more than 80 kids from 14 communities have signed up for the clinic, participants are still being accepted. Those wanting to register can call Gary and Cathy Maben at 432-1210 or sign up the morning of July 31. The clinic is open to anyone from age 7 to adult.

Registrations will be accepted at the Joseph gym from 9:30 a.m. to noon, with wrestling from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Wrestling is planned from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 1, and from 9:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 2. A picnic will be held at Wallowa Lake from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Coaching the clinic will be some high-powered talent.

Larry Owings, a two-time state champion from Canby and a national champion at the University of Washington, will be one of the coaches.

Southern Oregon University coach Mike Ritchy, the NAIA 2001 National Coach of the Year, also will be on hand, as will Matt McDowell, a two-time national champion for Southern Oregon.

Also, Joseph world champion bench presser Ray Hickman (also a wrestler at Boise State) will teach a session on weightlifting.

"We're really very fortunate" to get such a strong group of coaches, said Gary Maben.
