Volleyball Teams from La Grande, Union and Imbler got their first net action of the season Friday as Union and La Grande each hosted separate jamborees.

Union, which won the 2A state championship last season and in fact didn't lose a single game in 2A play in 2002, lost several of its top players to graduation. Two of those players — Melissa Helmer and Jana Brotherton (2A player of the year for all of Oregon) — now play for Eastern Oregon.

The Bobcats are getting ready to reload and began their season at their home jamboree with a 25-21 win over Weston-McEwen. They also lost 25-18 to the La Grande junior varsity.

This could be a very exciting year for the La Grande varsity as the Tigers return most of their players from a team that finished third at the 3A state tournament last year.

The Tigers lost Greater Oregon League MVP Danielle Tams, but La Grande does returns some powerful front line leapers in Kaci Lyman and Kathryn Ely and ought to be a force to be reckoned with this season.
