ONTARIO — The La Grande girls soccer team clinched its fourth straight District 7 championship after defeating Ontario 5-0 Tuesday.

La Grande coach Alex Steenstra said the girls worked hard for this championship and are very excited.

The defense has come a long way since the beginning of the season, Steenstra said.

No team in District 7 has scored against La Grande this season. The Tigers (8-0-0 in District 7, 10-1-0 overall) have outscored their league competition 37-0.

Steenstra said defenders Kayla Arritola, Tricia Nebeker, Megan Sherer and Ellen Barlow have been remarkable in not allowing a goal in the last eight league games.

"I think we distributed the ball well," Steenstra said about the Ontario game.

He said the defense is clicking, playing off each other and communicating.

Crystal Kevan scored goals in the 13th and 16th minutes, with two assists from Larissa Sieders.

Nicole Lewis scored on a 35- yard free kick in the 21st minute. Alexis Baum assisted on Lewis' goal in the 30th minute.

Steenstra said Lewis' second goal was a "beautiful" shot from 20 yards out into the top left corner of the net.

In the second half, Baum scored off an assist from Austin Nightengale. Goalies Mandy Hillecke and Amber Rasmussen played in the game.

La Grande travels to The Dalles Saturday.
