The La Grande soccer boys completed their championship season with an 8-0 shutout over Baker Thursday.

Manuel Arceo scored a hat trick, while Trae Perry booted in a couple of goals. Conner Ross, Aaron Knape and Kevin Mollerstrom scored goals.

The boys finished their league season 9-1 (27 points). They have not lost since their opening game Sept. 6 against Madras. They lost that game 2-1.

That's nearly seven weeks without a loss.

"That first match, we were trying a different formation. We didn't have a non-league schedule (to practice)," said coach Jessy Watson. "We fixed it."

Watson said the team played great against Baker. The team used this game to work on some things, such as one-touch passing, in preparation for postseason, which begins Nov. 4 for La Grande.

"Our focus wasn't to score a lot. We were trying to get good ball movement," said Watson. "They really jelled."

The Tigers get a first-round bye in the playoffs. They will host a second-round playoff match Nov. 4 at La Grande Middle School. La Grande does not know yet who it will play.
