EASTERN MEN CAN'T KEEP UP WITH WESTERN BAPTIST

SALEM — The Western Baptist men's blistering second half propelled them over Eastern Oregon Tuesday.

The Warriors, a high-scoring club with four games over 100 points this season, tacked on 59 points in the second half to cruise to a 97-71 Cascade Collegiate Conference basketball win.

"It just got away from us in the second half," Eastern coach Art Furman said.

The Warriors went on a 22-6 second half run over a six- minute stretch to turn a one-point lead into a 17-point margin at 71-54 with 9:25 remaining. Jeff Dunn hit three of his six 3-pointers during the run. Dunn scored 21 of his 24 points in the second half.

The Warriors were 13-of-27 from the 3-point arc.

"We didn't do a good job scoring when they went to a zone of their own," Furman said.

He said the Mountaineers were "feeling good" at halftime tied at 38-38.

The first half had 10 ties and neither team could mount more than a five-point lead. Conference scoring leader Eric Fiegi poured in 17 points for the Warriors (4-2 CCC, 11-6 overall). Eastern's Bryan Rabas hit a bucket before the buzzer to end the half.

Eastern was paced by Trevor Exline's 15 points and eight rebounds. Rabas had 14 points, followed by Brock Canady's 13 and Jason Crawley's 11.

The Mountaineers (3-3, 7-5) host Southern Oregon Friday and Oregon Tech Saturday. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
