UNION COUNTY MAJORS STAY ON WINNING TRACK

ELGIN — After the dust settled Thursday, only the Union County Majors were left standing.

All the other local teams at the District 3 Little Softball League Tournament in Elgin were eliminated.

The Union County Majors moved on by beating the La Grande Majors 11-1. Jessica Reynolds pitched the victory, striking out seven. She also had two hits while teammate Tara Ludwig had two doubles.

A 7-run second inning broke the game open for Union County.

Union County plays Milton-Freewater at 1 p.m. today.

For La Grande, Shayla Powers had two hits, including a triple.

The La Grande Minors lost to Baker 13-3, while the La Grande Juniors lost to Baker 8-0.

All three La Grande teams ended up fourth in the tournament.

The Wallowa Valley Minors lost to Pendleton 15-5, but they are still alive because it was their first loss of the tournament.

Whitney Schaefer and Stephanie Simpson had hits for Wallowa Valley. Coach Chuck Simpson said pitcher Katy Edison pitched well, but that Pendleton is a very good team.

Wallowa Valley played at 10 a.m. today against Baker.

La Grande Minor boys eliminated

BURNS — The postseason ended Thursday for the La Grande Minors All Stars, as they were beaten by Baker, 21-1, in the tournament at Burns.

Erik Jacobs had La Grande's only hit in the game.

Mavric Goss pitched 2 1/3 innings for La Grande, then was relieved by Derrick Peasley. The game was called in the fourth inning. Out of 12 teams in the tournament, La Grande finished fourth.
