Eastern Oregon Universitys Tim Seydel is donning a new hat.

Seydel has been named EOUs assistant vice president for University Advancement. Seydel had served as Easterns director of communications and marketing since July of 1999.

Seydel will supervise about five people in the Easterns University Advancement office in his new position. He will continue to direct EOUs communications and marketing department.

The move is being done to restructure how the the University Advancement Department is run. The restructuring will allow University Advancement staff to focus on alumni, government relations, marketing, communication development and communications projects.

These will include a fund-raising campaign for EOUs new science building. EOU hopes to raise

about $4 million privately for the building.

With the restructuring, more people in the University Advancement Department will report to Seydel instead of to EOU President Phil Creighton.

This will streamline how EOUs University Advancement Department is run, Seydel said. Many universities throughout the United States have a similar model.

Creighton said the move is timely and is a credit to Seydels skills.

It recognizes what we need for the future and Tims past accomplishments, Creighton said.

Seydel is a 1985 graduate of La Grande High School and a 1989 graduate of Eastern Oregon University. He returned to Eastern in 1999 after serving as the director of communications at Buena Vista University in Stone Lake, Iowa.
