JOSEPH Ross Coleman left Joseph Saturday night, but the Molalla cowboy knew he was going to get a big check from the Chief Joseph Days Rodeo.

Coleman started the night with an 80-point bareback ride on the Growney Brothers horse Cedar Pass, then finished the performance with a 90-point bull ride on Fireball.

He ended up winning the bull riding competition and $2,458.95, but finished a place behind Redmonds Jason Havens in bareback, getting $1,635.32 for that effort.

His $4,094.27 total easily made him the rodeos all-around winner.

Havens had an 81-point ride Friday night on Crooked River that held up for a $2,133.03 check.

Craig Lathams 84-point saddle bronc ride on Ft. McLoud Thursday held the longest, earning the Goodwell, Okla., cowboy $2,295.99.

The weekends biggest winner was Brad Gleason of Touchet, Wash., who won both rounds of steer wrestling, easily took the average and walked away the winner of the Harley Tucker Memorial Award, too.

Gleason won $4,036.65 in steer wrestling and pocketed a $1,450 bonus for winning the Tucker award, which goes to the high-point winner from the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show in Union, the St. Paul Rodeo, the Elgin Stampede and Chief Joseph Days.

Gleason finished the series with 12 points, six from his average victory in Joseph and six from his win in Elgin.

Barrel racers Debbie Stahl of Pendleton and Kelli Currin of Dayton, Wash., had a chance to capture the Tucker award but finished out of the points in their event. Stahl entered with 11 points and Currin had 10, but Currin ran Sunday in 17.54 seconds, a fifth-place showing, and Stahl ran at 17.55, good for sixth place.

Maureen Crossley of Hermiston ran the barrels Friday in 17.24 seconds and won $1,739.80.

Other winners this weekend were Matt Shiozawa of Pocatello, Idaho, $3,107.87 total in calf roping; David Motes of Fresno, Calif., and Ryan Motes of Weatherford, Texas, $2,058.81 total in team roping; and Jim Ward of Heppner, $1,448.52 total in steer roping.
